The tale of the pink running shoes

It all started with a Facebook message:

It was love at first sight. I knew it was exactly what I wanted. But I wasn’t too keen on spending more than 5k for a pair of running shoes. So I told him, let’s just wait for a sale.

Besides, my rubber shoes were still intact. Sure, the soles had detached twice but a good dose of Mighty Bond helped it to survive two races. I thought the only time I would replace them is if they become completely unusable.

Although it crossed my mind that my shoes could possibly be responsible for my shin splints and knee pain, I still kept using it. I thought that was being practical.

Still, every time Kernan and I went out, he would insist on dropping by Sports Warehouse, Toby’s and Nike to check for sales. No luck for weeks.

On a whim, one night, I tried putting on one of Kernan’s Lunarlites. What’s all the fuss about this shoe? I mean, it could all be just a marketing ploy to buy more Nikes. Boy, was I mistaken. The shoes felt good. I want!

Last night, we went to Greenhills planning to watch Shrek. But we didn’t make it in time for the early evening schedule so we just settled on dinner. While scouting for a resto, Kernan spotted the Nike stadium and went in to check the shoe racks.

We found this:

What luck!

I asked the sales guy for a size 9.

“Size 9 po?” he asked surprised.

“(I know my feet are huge. Can you go to the stockroom now?) Yes, size 9,” I confirmed.

He went through their stocks and came back shortly, “Ubos na po ang sizes Mam. Yan na lang.” He recommended the Nike Free but I wasn’t interested in any other shoe.

I was just slightly disappointed. It wasn’t meant to be.

But unlike how we used to do, we didn’t leave the store right away. Kernan wanted to look for a Nike armband where he could place his energy gels and keys.

Suddenly, the sales guy emerged from the stock room with a box in hand. “Mam, may isang size 9 pa pala.”

I tried them on immediately, they were a perfect fit.

The price was 30% off but I got it for free. Kernan bought it for me. ;)

I went home with a smile from ear to ear.

Patience does have its rewards.

So if you really want something, go for it and do not settle for anything less.

I’ve always believed the Big Guy up there has a way of giving you what you want in due time.

In this case, he gave me a sale and, most importantly, a loving and generous hubby.

I am so blessed and just a little bit lucky. ;)

So excited to break them in.
